Miguel Ángel Santana nació en la ciudad de Monterrey, Nuevo León, México, en 1973. Desde temprana edad se interesó por el dibujo y asistió a talleres de arte desde los 6 años de edad. Desde entonces ha participado en concursos de pintura obteniendo reconocimientos a nivel local y estatal en México, y ha impartido talleres de introducción a las artes desde 1997.
Estudió dibujo artístico y diseño gráfico en El Instituto Profesional de Arte y Diseño MACREL, en donde participó en exposiciones colectivas.
Cursó la carrera de Ciencias de la Comunicación en la Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León especializándose en el área de publicidad.
Tuvo la oportunidad de conciliar el arte, la publicidad, y el diseño en diversos proyectos como: murales comerciales e institucionales, escenografías, dibujando caricatura de sátira política y social para medios impresos y haciendo ilustración y diseño gráfico para diferentes empresas y medios de comunicación.
Un paso determinante en su carrera artística fue el haber estudiado pintura en el Taller de Perfeccionamiento Artístico del maestro José Montalvo, de quien obtuvo conocimientos teóricos y prácticos sobre estilos pictóricos, color y análisis de forma /fondo. Además, la influencia del maestro Montalvo acompaña su obra en todo momento.
Desde 2005 ha experimentado la transición de lo figurativo a lo abstracto, siendo este último el estilo con el que más se ha identificado y al que ha decidido dedicar su más reciente colección titulada: ‘DIMENSIONES’.
Miguel Angel Santana was born in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico in 1973. From an early age he showed an interest in drawing, attending his first workshop at the age of 6. Miguel has participated in a variety of painting contests in which he achieved recognition at both local and state levels in his native Mexico. Since 1997 he has been raising community awareness of fine arts via introductory-level arts classes.
Miguel studied drawing and graphic arts at Instituto Profesional de Arte y Diseño MACREL (Professional Institute of Art and Design MACREL), where his work was on display at a variety of group exhibitions. He earned a bachelor’s degree in advertising from the College of Communication Sciences at the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon (Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon).
In his professional life, Miguel has had the opportunity to combine art, advertising, and design for commercial murals and institutional sets, political cartoon drawing, and social satire for media print. He has worked as an illustrator and graphic designer for various companies and media.
One of the defining moments of Miguel’s artistic career was studying painting under the “maestro” José Montalvo during one of the master’s reknowned workshops. Under his direction, Miguel obtained knowledge and skills in painting styles, color, shape analysis and background. This great maestro has influenced Miguel’s work throughout his career.
Since 2005 Miguel has undergone a transition from the figurative to the abstract style. This is the style with which he has identified the most and to which he has dedicated his latest collection, entitled 'DIMENSIONS'.
